Catherine Maldarino's past collections have been inspired by Henri Matisse. He is a French artist known for his use of colour and his fluid, brilliant and original draughtsmanship. He was a master draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor, but excelled primarily as a painter. Matisse is regarded, with Picasso, as the greatest artist of the 20th century. ( Wikipedia, Henri Matisse). His paintings, textiles and collages have inspire designers to play with color. For other designers and Maldarino, they thought that if color and pattern are used together it must be with a sense of craftmanshhip." " Catherine Maldarino collection was about craft and nature, or as she entitled it: "down to earth". ( A Palette of Matisse-inspired color- The New York Times). Here you see a piece from her collection which was inspired by the works of Matisse.
